Dean Cleveland and I are beginning a Law Enforcement Campaign and we are trying to take care of every possible contingency which might arise. There is one problem which is worrying us considerably. If there should be among our students, one or two or several, boys who decide they want to get back at us, and in the middle of the night should get up and begin to do damage to College buildings or to College property, it might be very difficult to find out who they are, It would help us a great deal if it could be arranged that, if there is any vandalism, every possible effort will be made to find out who is responsible.
Our position is as follows:
1. We are not ourselves detectives and we do not want to put ourselves in the position of acting in such a capacity.
2. We do not want to have secret police or "informers". As a matter of fact it would be very bad for us if the idea should spread about that we have "informers" among the students.
3. We may need in same cases real evidence and not merely reports and rumors of an indefinite kind.
We do not advise at this time the employment of college policemen. However, it seems to us that if Private Detectives were engaged who would immediately investigate and follow to the very limit any leads with regard to the perpetrators of vandalistic attacks it would strengthen our hands a great deal.
Possibly there are men connected with the Winter Park Police Force or the Orlando Police Force who could be engaged for this work. Our suggestion is that they be engaged ahead of time so that they can come out to the campus and acquaint themselves with it and be ready to act immediately in case they are called in to make any specific
